Many people are surprised to learn that an estimated 7 million birds pass through Chicago annually during migration, and these include more than 300 species. They are found in the wetlands of the Calumet area on the southeast side, in the native habitat areas of North Park Village Nature Center on the northwest side, and throughout the waterways and neighborhoods in between. Birds are an important and fascinating part of our urban environment.

I am pleased to welcome you to a unique and interactive resource for learning about these birds, their habitats and migration patterns. Here you can view the birds of Chicago from all angles, hear their calls, see their homes and track their movements. You will discover the best birding locations in the City and learn about efforts to make Chicago more bird-friendly.

Enjoy this site and bird watching in Chicago!

Sincerely,

Richard M. Daley
Mayor
