Bird Walk and Workday at LaBagh Woods, Sunday, Nov. 15th
« : November 13, 2015, 06:03:56 AM »
Sunday, November 15, 7 a.m.
LaBagh Woods
4600 W. Foster Ave

The Chicago Ornithological Society,  Bird Conservation Network and the Sierra Club are co-hosting an early morning bird walk and will then join a Friends of the Forest Preserves work day to finish the year’s planting of new native shrubs at LaBagh Woods. This is a "Give Back to Birds" day, and COS, BCN and Sierra Club will have members participating in both events.

The bird walk begins at 7am and will focus on lingering breeding birds, new migrant arrivals and winter-only resident birds. One good thing about fall is that without so many leaves on the trees, spotting birds is much easier! We will also keep our eyes peeled for a sighting of LaBagh’s wild mink family.  Meet in the Irene C. Hernandez Picnic Grove parking lot on Foster Ave. Car and bike parking is free and plentiful. The #92 Foster Ave. bus stops at the picnic grove.
At 10:00 a.m.  – after coffee and donuts – participants can drive to LaBagh’s Cicero parking lot and  join the FFOTP team to plant shrubs along the Chicago River. With many hands to help, the planting work isn’t hard. Snacks and more drinks will keep you fueled up for the day’s work. Those who are coming just for the workday should arrive at 10 a.m. at the Cicero parking lot.

For more information, please contact Christine Williamson at birdchris@aol.com or if you need directions or help on the day of the trip, call Christine’s cell phone at 773/415-5217.
For both events, dress for the weather (layers are a good idea because you’ll warm up as you walk or plant and you will want to be able to strip down a little), wear sturdy boots or shoes and bring a water bottle. You might want to throw rubber boots in the trunk of your car if we get more rain.  For the bird walk, bring binoculars (there are a few pairs to borrow). For the planting, bring work gloves if you have them (gloves also will be provided).
