 I was a little surprised while birding yesterday to see a moth flying around the path at Chicago's Jackson Park, though I know some are active this time of year.  The best match I could find is Bruce Spanworm (Operophtera bruceata), which is active late in the year (photo below).

Looks good for Bruce's Spanworm to me (unless Winter Moth has moved into the Chicago area...).
