Here is a link to a menu page for the various Illinois Birding Maps.

So far there is the IL Monk Map, showing monk parakeet locations, the Illinois birder's Map, and a detail of the Lisle CBC area circle.

One of the things that I hope the Google IL Birders' Map to be used for is ad-hoc area guides that show locations that may be known among birders who frequent the area, but to others remain a mystery.

Here's an example of the Palos area showing many, but not all (yet) of the birding areas. I hope to have these placemarks include what kinds of birds (particularly nesting species) may be found at each location.

And, please note that these embedded maps are fully-functional: you can click, pan, zoom etc. right in this window.

These are really cool and very helpful. BTW, I zoomed all the way in and found you and Randy looking at a Pileated in the woods.

That happens occasionally (rarely, actually)...and I don't know why. This afternoon, it returned "cannot find map". But now (1:23 am, 2/24/09) it pulls it up just fine.

I think (based on an inspired guess) that it has to do with Google Maps and Google Earth integration, as the link that is having occasional problems is based on a .kmz map that lists everything in alphabetical order.
