Southernmost Illinois, the southernmost eleven counties:
Shawnee National Forest - over 260,000 acres of public land
(including Pomona Cave Creek Valley, LaRue Pine Hills, Oakwood Bottoms Greentree Reserve, & Garden of the Gods just to name a few choice spots)
Trail of Tears State Forest - 5,000 acres of public land
Cypress Creek NWR - 15,000 acres of public land
Cache River State Natural Area (IDNR) - 14,000 acres of public land
Mermet Lake State Fish & Wildlife Area - 2600 acres of public land
Horseshoe Lake State Fish & Wildlife Area - 10,200 acres of public land
Union County State Fish & Wildlife Area - 6200 acres of public land
Ferne Clyffe State Park - 2400 acres of public land
Giant City State Park - 4000 acres of public land
Crab Orchard NWR - 44000 acres of public land
Middle Mississippi River NWR - 2500 acres of public land
[And this list doesn't include everything, like smaller state and city parks.]
