Looking for a decent pair of birding binoculars - used
« : April 24, 2013, 12:01:03 PM »
New to birding.  Would like to find a good pair of used binoculars for Mother's Day.  Thinking in the $200 range.  Any guidance, suggestions or sources would be appreciated.

Frank,

For around $200 there are some decent optics out there.  You can get a pair of Nikon Monarch 5 8x42 for about $230.  They are a good deal with fine optics.  The Celestron Nature DX 8x42 costs about $140 and for the price they are pretty decent, fully waterproof, nitrogen filled.  Both of those are for new pairs, I don't have any experience with used binos.

Check out the Eagle Optics website (www.eagleoptics.com). They have a large selection of binoculars under $200. If you call them they can help you narrow down possible binos to purchase depending on what parameters you want (e.g magnification, size, weight)

I found a pair of eagle optics denali 8x42 on ebay for $90 including shipping.  The transferable unlimited lifetime warranty made them a very good buy

The Eagle Optics Vortex bins are very good and very affordable.  Likewise for their Vortex telescopes.
