Bird Conservation Network, a coalition of 18 organizations having an interest in bird conservation, is hosting its 2013 Give Back to Birds Day at Jarvis Migratory Bird Sanctuary on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013.  All volunteers are welcome and are enthusiastically encouraged to join us.  The workday will probably include seed harvesting, weeding, planting and--if anyone wants to don waders--removing cattails from the marsh, for those who want muddy fun.

Here's an opportunity to go inside the enclosure and and learn and see what this iconic preserve is all about and to help co-stewards Terry Schilling and Charlotte Newfield in their ongoing efforts to make this sanctuary better and better for local and migratory birds.  This has been a spectacular growing year at Jarvis.  Some of the cup plants and glade mallows have reached heights of over 12 feet.  It should be very exciting to see it all up-close and personal.

The outing begins with a bird walk led by the outstanding birding team of Christine and Geoff Williamson, starting at 7:30am.  Meet Christine and Geoff at the garage at the northeast edge of the Jarvis Sanctuary enclosure.

After the bird walk, tasty refreshments will be provided by Ann Sathers Restaurant.  We  will then segue into the workday about 9am and work as long as we hold up.    Parking placards will be provided at the beginning of the workday at 9am.  Those arriving for the 7:30am bird walk will need to pay parking fees as applicable until they are able to obtain the workday parking placard.  All necessary equipment will be provided.  Please wear appropriate footwear and dress for the weather.

If you can join us, please RSVP to marylou.mellon@gmail.com.  BCN hopes many of you will join us on Saturday, Oct. 5th, for this fun and constructive outing!
