Corps of Engineers lakes closing
« : October 01, 2013, 09:25:10 AM »
Hey Gang,

Unfortunately, because the Government has officially shutdown, ALL Corps of Engineers lakes are closing facilities to the public. All campgrounds are being closed and all access areas are being gated.

If you plan on birding Carlyle, Rend or Shelbyville you'll have a more difficult time birding the access areas because the gates will be closed AND they'll be very little space to park. I don't know for certain, but IF you park near the gate, in the grass or on the road, it's possible the Park Rangers who are patrolling the facilities during the Government shutdown, i.e., mission essential employees, may be issuing citations for those who attempt access.

Please don't kill the messenger! Just wanted you all to be aware of how a Government shutdown can affect the birding community.

Good birdings!
