Snowy Owl prey item, 31st St Harbor on Friday, 20 Dec 2013

This photo may not have good enough resolution to tell, but I'm curious if anyone has ideas about what the prey item is that this Snowy Owl has devoured.

I took this picture on Friday, 20 Dec 2013 at Chicago's 31st St Harbor at about 9:00am.  At the time, this was the only Snowy Owl present in and around this location.  I saw two owls in the harbor area the next day, before the eight arrive the day after that.

I have really no clue, but one of the owls from the 22nd was very fond indeed of the Mergansers in the harbor and attempted to catch one several times. Perhaps a Merganser?

Perhaps the Snowy had enough of that crow, and decided to eat it.   :)

I had a few responses suggesting the prey item was a large fish.  Seems reasonable.

Best answer so far is "red licorice whip."
