Our August Birds & Beers at Candlelite Chicago, hosted by Matthew Cvetas and Fran Morel, was enthusiastically attended by 20 or so birders and another 5-6 non-birding family members who came for the pizza and beer.

Though it might seem like it is coming up a bit quick, because it is, the September 2014 gathering of Birds & Beers will be a very special occasion featuring local Passenger Pigeon author extraordinaire, Joel Greenberg, as we have scheduled this gathering to coincide with the 10pm Chicago WTTW PBS showing of his movie, From Billions to None.

We will be meeting at Steve Huggins' second home, where he has arranged a private room where we will be able to screen From Billions to None with Joel at Galway Arms.

This is a FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY to meet Joel and see his impressive and deeply moving one hour live TV presentation of the film he has worked so hard on, and which was the Broadcast Award Winner at the American Conservation Film Festival in 2014.

So plan to join us at 7pm, Galway Arms, 2442 N Clark Street, just north of Fullerton (I have always easily found street parking) for all the usual conversation and good cheer with the birders whose post you read all the time.  Doesn't matter what level of birder, bird watcher or nature enthusiast you are, we always have fun, and we are a very welcoming group.  PLUS, bonus, this month we are exceedingly delighted to bring you this live screening of Joel's movie in a public setting so we can all watch it together, and discuss it afterward with one another with Joel in our midst.

Exciting stuff.  We hope to see you NEXT THURSDAY, September 11th, 7pm.  The live screening will happen at 10pm, so we will be getting last rounds to sit down and enjoy this hour long presentation about 940-945pm.  We hope to see you next week Thursday.

Wondering when our remaining 2014 gatherings will be?

OCTOBER will feature TWO gatherings, the first, OCTOBER 5, UnCommon Ground 430-6/7/8pm (COS host after their speaker that afternoon from 2-4pm) and the second, OCTOBER 18, Lake County location after Hawkwatch (Adam Sell host)

NOVEMBER 8th, Clinton Lake / McLean or Woodford County after IOS Field Trip (Matt Fraker / Matthew Winks / Shanin Abreu / Tyler D Funk and other hosts, I hope... Plan to stay overnight)

DECEMBER 4, The Rail (Steve / Skillethead / Jeff host)

And finally, JANUARY 15th, to celebrate the SECOND ANNIVERSARY of Birds & Beers in Chicago, I am considering taking us back to Duke of Perth, the place where all this got started.  Thoughts?

Watch for specific details on all these great opportunities to meet your birding compatriots as we have those details to share.

September Birds & Beers tomorrow, September 11th, 7pm, Galway Arms.

We will be socializing upstairs in a private room from 7-930/945pm, then about 945pm we will settle in for a private viewing of Joel Greenberg's AWARD WINNING, WTTW PBS airing of his film, From Billions to None:  The Passenger Pigeon's Flight to Extinction, WITH Joel and the film's director, David Mrazek, both of whom will be joining us for tomorrow night's airing.

It will be another great Birds & Beers night out.

Come for the socializing and leave if you can't stay up that late to watch the whole movie until 11pm.  Come for the airing of the film at 10pm and stay late if you'd like. Or join many of us who will do both.  Just join us!!!  We hope to see you at Galway Arms tomorrow night (ask for Birds & Beers in the upstairs area).
